Captain Comet's Very Wrong Sandwich
How the galaxy was saved by a snack, a giggle, and one grumpy alien
by Priya Kapoor
“Some problems are too big to fight. A few just need lunch.”
Captain Priya ran the best space diner in the whole Wobbly Nebula. Her floating restaurant, the Comet Café, served every creature in the galaxy — as long as they didn't mind their food drifting off their plates.
Business was booming. Until the Grumbulon arrived.
The Grumbulon was enormous, purple, and extremely cranky. It parked its battleship in front of the café, folded all six arms, and announced in a voice like a slammed door: "I have come to DESTROY this galaxy. It is too NOISY. Too SILLY. Too FULL of LAUGHING."
The little robots, Beep and Boop, hid behind the ketchup.

Priya, however, wiped her hands on her apron and floated right up to the giant grump. "Destroy the galaxy on an empty stomach? Absolutely not. Sit down. I'm making you lunch."
"I do NOT eat," growled the Grumbulon. "Eating is SILLY."
"Perfect," said Priya. "Then you won't mind if I make you the worst sandwich in the universe."
This got the Grumbulon's attention.
Priya went to work. She stacked bouncy moon-cheese and fizzy comet-pickles. She added a slice of something that hummed and a squirt of sauce that changed color when you looked at it. The whole thing floated up, wobbled, sneezed (sandwiches do that in space), and gently bonked the Grumbulon on the nose.

The Grumbulon's mouth twitched.
"Was that... a giggle?" gasped Beep.
"I did NOT giggle," the Grumbulon insisted — right before the sandwich did a little loop, lost a pickle, and the pickle landed on its head like a tiny green hat.
That did it.

The Grumbulon laughed. A great, booming, rumbling laugh that shook the whole café and rattled every star in the Wobbly Nebula. It laughed until purple tears floated off its cheeks and drifted around the room like little planets.
"I... I have not laughed in four hundred years," it finally wheezed. "I forgot how. That is why I hated the noise. It reminded me that everyone was happy — except me."
Priya passed it a napkin. "Well," she said, "the café's always open. Grumps eat free on Tuesdays."
And so the Grumbulon never did destroy the galaxy. Instead it became the Comet Café's very best regular, telling terrible jokes to anyone who would listen — and Captain Priya learned that the biggest, scariest problems in the universe are sometimes just someone who has forgotten how to laugh, and needs a friend, and a very wrong sandwich, to remember.
