Safety & trust
Is Plumakids safe for my child?
Short answer: yes. Here's exactly how, in plain English — not legal boilerplate. (For the full legal policy, see our Privacy Policy.)
COPPA-compliant, by design
Plumakids is built to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect the minimum information needed to run the app: a parent's email (for the account), a child's first name and age range (collected only after a parent sets up the profile), and the stories the child writes. We don't collect a child's photo, location, phone number, or anything beyond that.
Every AI output is moderated before it reaches a child
The AI guide asks questions — it never writes the story. But everything AI-generated in the app (the hero portrait, the book cover, and any AI-suggested writing prompts) is passed through an automated safety check before it's shown, and again before anything is published to the public Story Lounge. If a check fails or times out, the app falls back to a safe, pre-written option rather than showing nothing or showing something unchecked.
100% ad-free — we don't sell data
There are no ads anywhere in Plumakids, for parents or children. We don't sell or share a family's data with advertisers. The app is funded by subscriptions (currently free during the alpha), not by monetizing attention.
Private by default — sharing is a separate, parent-visible choice
A child's story is private the moment it's created. Making it visible to other families (the Story Lounge community feed) is a separate, deliberate choice — and making it findable on Google search is a second, even stricter choice on top of that. Neither happens automatically, and either can be turned back off at any time.
Parent controls, always
Parents create and manage every child profile. There is no cross-family ranking or comparison — only a friendly, private leaderboard between siblings on the same account, if you have more than one child. A parent can review, unshare, or delete a child's stories at any time.
Safety — common questions
Is Plumakids COPPA-compliant?
Yes. We collect only the minimum data needed (a parent's email, a child's first name and age range, and the stories they write), require parental setup of each child profile, and never collect a child's photo, location, or phone number.
Does a stranger ever see my child's story?
Only if a parent explicitly chooses to share it to the community feed, and only if a second, separate choice is made to let it be found by search engines. Both are off by default, and both can be turned back off at any time.
Is the AI content moderated?
Yes. Every AI-generated image and any AI-suggested text passes an automated safety check before it's shown to a child, and again before anything is published publicly. A failed or timed-out check falls back to a safe default instead of showing unchecked content.
Are there ads in Plumakids?
No. Plumakids is 100% ad-free for both parents and children, and we do not sell family data to advertisers.
Can I delete my child's data?
Yes. A parent can delete a child's profile and stories at any time from the dashboard. See our Privacy Policy for the full data-deletion process.
Does the AI ever write content for my child, unsupervised?
No — by design, the AI guide only asks questions and offers prompts; it never writes the story text. The only AI-generated content in a story is the cover illustration and hero portrait, both moderated before display.
